
Juneau's Johnson & Reagan's Cruz Named MCC Student-Athletes of the Week (March 3)
Dooney Johnson (MacDowell School, also known as Juneau) and Gio Cruz (Reagan High School) were named the Milwaukee City Conference Student-Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 23 – March 1.
Johnson averaged 34.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 6.0 blocks in the Pioneers’ run to the MCC Gold Division conference tournament title. After Juneau earned a bye to the semifinals, Johnson posted a 52.4/82.6/37.5 percent shooting slash line in wins over Hamilton and Rufus King.
Next up for Juneau: no. 12 seed St. John’s NW Academies (Tuesday, March 4, 7 p.m.) in the WIAA regionals.
Cruz put on a sharpshooting masterclass in two games for Reagan in the MCC Blue Division conference tournament, knocking down 9 of 19 three-point attempts in games against Golda Meir and Riverside. For the tournament, he averaged 14.5 points per game.
Next up for Reagan: no. 18 seed Pulaski (Tuesday, March 4, 7 p.m.) in the WIAA regionals.
